I'd also like to mention this bead artist and her website, Jessica Beels. I did an informal e.mail interview with her a few months ago, and this is what she had to say about beading and the art community in NYC.

I am originally from New York City, but I've been living in Washington,
DC, for the past 20 years. I have had some sort of craft business
(knitting, strung beaded jewelry, beadweaving, handmade paper) at least
part-time since I got out of college. About 12 years ago, when I was
doing more soldering and silver work, I tried having a studio outside
my home for a while, for safety reasons. But, in addition to it
costing a bit more than I really could afford, I found it difficult to
make the time to get to the studio and then stay long enough to get
"real" work done. So, I made sure that, when we moved into a larger
house, I had room for an in-home studio. It's not very big (maybe 8' x
10'?) but I have lined it with shelves all the way up to the ceiling on
three sides and I have three narrow 6-foot worktables to spread all of
my projects out on.

These days, I do mostly sculptural beadwork - hollow-formed 3D pieces,
mostly jewelry) and sell it at juried craft shows on the East Coast and
in a few galleries. I have been trying to enter more juried
competitions and group shows, in an effort to gain visibility without
having to spend an entire weekend on my feet, selling my wares (and not
making stuff!).

Re. the art vs. craft question. It's been on my mind for decades. I
was an art history student in college (focused on 17th-century Dutch
painting) and I got a masters in Early American Culture (decorative
arts, focusing on an Arts and Crafts era jeweler) at the Winterthur
Museum in Delaware. The line between art and craft is a very fuzzy one
and nowadays seems to be linked more to the market and visibility than
to the stuff itself. "Art" is used as a tag for something that is
considered so "good" that one needn't use it, you could just look at
it. Or, if something is made with a traditional craft technique, but
with a narrative or other "hook."

In the world of craft shows, yes, crafts are taken very seriously. But
at things like the SOFA (sculptural objects and functional art) shows,
I wonder whether they are trying too hard to differentiate themselves
from what they are - craft. Or why not just acll is "Art" and deal
with the competition? It all comes down to what the buyer wants it to
be, I think. When I call my work sculpture, certain people perk up,
even when it's jewelry. It's as though knowing that there is a
(wink-wink) difference makes you smarter or more in touch and savvy and
therefore you can raise your price or change the label or get more
credit for the same piece of work.

That said, I think that people who respect crafts as well made, usually
functional pieces get more LASTING respect than people who like your
work as ART. The attachment has to do with the piece and the process,
not just the effect. But that's a pretty sweeping statement.

Ultimately, the respect question comes down to whether you respect your
own work for what it is, regardless of what you call it. My work is
simply not narrative and is rarely considered "art" by people who
distinguish between the two. My work is about the process and the
material, and that's why I like it. For most people, that makes it
craft (especially since it's 99% functional), but I don't deny that
it's art in my world and share pdf.

And my Dad would agree. As a representational painter in an
abstract-heavy popular art world, he is crafting paintings and painting
because he likes to produce something that looks like what it is. He
is not painting in order to make a statement about the world, really.
He's honing a skill and hoping to present a picture, an idea, that
someone connects to for their own reasons (not to put words in his
mouth).

Unrelated topic:

I'd also like to take a moment and bitch about Etsy. I haven't made a sale to ship since the 3rd. And I'm getting nervous, and a little upset. I've heard through the forums that they are doing no advertising. Since joining the Etsy community, I have spent quite a bit in fees, and I'd like to see a little effort on their part to find BUYERS, NOT MORE SELLERS.

My work is now shown at The Dundee Gallery, located at 4915 Underwood, in the heart of Dundee, Omaha, Nebraska! I'm excited, but have some reservations...Will I be targeting the same audience as the Joslyn gift shop? Is consigning work really the direction I want to go in? I think it might be the mood I'm in. I have had a burst of creativity since completing the bra and belt ensemble. I don't want to have a regular job, all I want to do is create. My day job is buyer at a large bead store in Omaha, Nebraska. The updated Miyuki seed bead catalog came out two weeks ago and I received the NEW COLORS in all sizes. I'm super stoked. These are the ones that came home with me.

More gold tones than I normally work with, but I was drawn to them...

My brother and sister-in-law gave me a gift certificate to the lapidary shop in town. I am very excited. Thinking a new bead embroidered piece for myself. Something in blues. Something in an organic shape.

Still working on my large, very pink, freeform bracelet. As soon as I get done fiddling with this blog, I WILL finish that bracelet. Tonight.

Baby Needs a New Pair of Boxing Gloves

Well, I'm hoping to sell a few pieces this week. I'm in need of new boxing gloves. Not only have they torn at the seams, but I somehow got a weird bruise on the back of my right hand. For a beader, and all around maker of "things," hands are darned important.

Anyway, I finished another "Goth Valentine's fringe bracelet" tonight, and worked a little more on the pink freeform bracelet. I got caught up in reading forum posts on Etsy, so I didn't get quite as far as I'd hoped. I DID get my paper craft and soldering corner of my studio cleaned up. (That part of my studio also doubles as a kitchen. I do most of my cooking and eating at my boyfriend's place, freeing up valuable work space! And it has been a wonder for my diet, since all the food is 2 blocks away.) And I took pics of my scarves and pants to list on Etsy. I have decided not to work in that direction, so the pieces that are up are the last of my interest in knitting and pant making.

I finished my pink freeform peyote stitch bracelet (finally), and it turned out beautifully. I will be listing it on Etsy in a week or so. Any interested souls may contact me at thejadedog@yahoo.com. It ain't cheap.

In the meantime, I have had a few ideas for new pendants. I pulled out some mokume gane slabs of polymer clay I had created this past summer, and played around with some new bails with backing attachments we received at the shop. Here's the first:

I made a few "quilted" leaves last night. I'm layering papers, fabrics, and leather, stitching them together. I need a punch to attach eyelets, and they will be ready to hang. I may do that tomorrow, and get a pic up. I have an idea for a freeform neckpiece using the new beads I purchased last week.

I am not sure where this sudden burst of creativity has come from. I have felt stagnant for...I don't know how long. Yesterday I pulled out Self-Promotion for the Creative Person by Lee Silber. I read it through over a year ago. Didn't do much with the information. Maybe I just wasn't ready to do what needs to be done. And now I am?

I'm back from a fast and furious buying trip to Tucson. I buy for the store, and for myself. I didn't spend nearly as much as I did last year, but did find some treasures. I will try to get a descent picture of my bead booty. Some things I had to purchase a hank of, or a full bag of. Since I do OOAK works, I don't like to continuously use the same ingredients. I'll be listing several vintage lots on Etsy, and I may get back to Ebay.

To be honest, I haven't been selling much on Etsy in the last couple of weeks. I'm wondering if that's the place I need to be spending so much effort. Ah, but then where? I'm investigating other options and possibilities.

I got so many GREAT IDEAS in Tucson. Now it's finding the time to implement them all. AHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!

An extra day off from work does my brain good

It snowed quite a bit Monday night into Tuesday this week, so I took a personal day. I didn't really feel like driving the 60 miles to work in the muck. That extra day was just what I needed to get crackin' on new projects, get others finished up, and some others went back to the drawing board. :) Speaking of set aside projects, I'm almost finished with my belly dance bra top! I have a line of beading to do around the edging of one cup, attach the straps, and make a center bead tassel. I will have it done Saturday- with awesome pics!

Yoohoo! I have finally completed the belly dance bra top I've been working on for a little over a year. I had some problems with the straps, coming up with a comfortable yet strong tie was tricky...but I solved the dilemma with ribbons sewn on the sides and I left the silky scarves extra long so it can be tied into a flirty bow in back.

Here's a progress update for my bellydance belt.
The surface embellishment has been completed. I will be backing the piece with leather and beading the edges, beginning Saturday. So, I should be completely done on Wednesday. Yippee!! Here's pics:

Oh, and I SCHEDULED time to work on PMC this week! I completed three charms, and am working on a vessel, a set of beads, a seed pod, and a large bisque blank bead. Check at my lov.li shop to see pics of the finished pieces.

It's true! I have finally finished my bead embroidered belt. I'll try taking some descent pictures in the next couple of days, sunny days permitting. I feel like a tremendous weight has been lifted...

At International Bead Market this weekend, myself and another instructor will be demoing the latest products and techniques throughout the day. We are also having a balloon pop sale. Don't forget the Bead Bazaar is also happening this Saturday at Westside Community Center, just up 108th Street at Grover. Good times and great beads to be had!

I'm really excited and am hoping I win because I'd really like a kiln and nice Lindstrom tools. So, if you are going, please vote me People's Choice. Ha!

I have been fooling a bit with wire again, and this bangle is my latest offering. My hands get tired wrapping the wire, but the results are so worth it.

I'm packing up my treasures to send to Bead and Button. How nerve wracking. I'm still waiting to hear from my insurance agent. That, too, is nerve wracking.

I got my Federal Tax Return yesterday. That made me happy. And I promptly mailed a chunk of that to my credit card. And with the scrapings a bought a couple of new workout hoodies at the Lady Footlocker, where everything was 70% off. Deal.

Today, I'm working on PMC beads and firing them tomorrow, so I should be listing those Sunday on Etsy. I have sold all the beads I have made, but the charms and large beads are not moving. Gotta figure out where my peeps are!

I have gone to part time status at my day job, so I can focus on my art-to-wear business. I'd be lyin' if I said I wasn't scared. And nervous. And a little wigged out. I have decided to do two more art/craft shows this year (yuck), and I am working on dates for a trunk show at Dundee Gallery (sweet!). I have much work to do, but I'm taking it slow and steady. I made several lists this weekend. Things I'd like to have done for the trunk show, ideas for presentations, new works. I have some ideas for repurposed clothing, too. I'm trying to put the whole Bead and Button show out of my head. It's not helping me focus :)

So...you'll be seeing new works here in the next month, and details on my next Big Project.

I went to an auction yesterday. It was only my second auction, and it was great fun! Don had to leave for a gig, so I toughed it out alone. I was waiting for a flat of buttons to come up...and it was almost THE LAST ITEM!!! So, needless to say, I left my arm in the air when it came up for bidding...I got some beautiful buttons, and there were some vintage Swarovski bits floating in there, too. I've listed a ton of cabs and buttons, both on Ebay and Etsy. I've had a great time looking for beautiful pieces to offer creative souls. I've become a bit of a button freak in the last couple of weeks. I will try and post some pics up of a few buttons that I may well frame, they are such incredible miniature piece of art.

I have been working on a crocheted rope. I started it on vacation, and am close to the end. I have decided to make some beaded beads to hang on the ends a la lariat.

It's really hot here in Iowa; mid-nineties with really high humidity. Ugh. And it's only the beginning of summer.

I paid deposit and first months rent on my new home. It's going to require some work. There is a room off of the garage that will make a great picture framing work space, as soon as I can get something to cover the insulation. The previous tenant left flotsam in the closets, and I'll need to do a major cleaning in the kitchen and bathroom. I have a couple of weeks to do all of this, and more (maybe painting) before the official move.

So, I'd sure like to sell a bunch of jewelry this month, as I'd like to get the aforementioned heavy bag and speed bag, and soon. Make it so.

New Cuff Bracelet

In between moving, cleaning, and working, I've created a new cuff bracelet. The base is a cuff from an old silk shirt. I embellished it with seed beads and vintage sequins, pearls, and vintage cabochons. I also found a great old button to use for the closure.

I have found the perfect thing to do with my old fringe bracelets that aren't selling. I'm making them into fringed beaded beads. I never wear bracelets anymore...since I got the laptop really, so here is one of my bracelets reworked into a bead.

I've taken apart several bracelets this week, and will get beads made in between bigger projects.

For those belly dancers out there, I have listed a dance lot of jewelry, a hip scarf, and books on the subject of belly dance and goddess imagery on eBay.
I also made a couple of pocket rosaries this morning, and those are listed on Lov.li.

There's no stopping me now.

I made these beads this morning. They measure about 1" in diameter. I'd like to mention here that this is by no means my own personal design. I was inspired by a bead in Beadwork Creates Beaded Beads. I've made a few changes to simplify the process. I use size 11 and size 8 seed beads to make the base peyote bead. I use size 11 seed beads to make straight and branch fringes. Each bead takes about 1 hour and 15 minutes, and that includes the time it is taking me to take apart the fringe bracelet I'm salvaging for that particular bead.

The silver bead pictured here is made up of base metal and sterling silver beads, and the new P470 Miyuki seed beads in 11 and 8. It's a permanent finish, or so states the manufacturer. If you haven't seen them, check them out. They have a nice consistency and finish.
The turquoise bead is made of chips, seed beads in chocolate brown, base metal, and sterling silver.
The rhodonite chip bead also has sterling and base metal accents, and the base is made from dusty rose and chocolate brown seed beads.

I'm now either going to go move my bed to my new apartment, or work on a bead embroidered belt. It's awfully hot out.

...you ask? A few things of some interest. I found out yesterday a minor celebrity in Omaha has purchased one of my necklaces at the Dundee Gallery. And I sold a couple of beaded beads and a necklace at the Bead Market yesterday. It's nice to have the confirmation that I'm on the right path with my latest creations. Here's an example of a spiral crocheted rope pendant using African trade beads.

I started work on more collage pendants. I have also assembled a few bookmarks. I may make more and have those available at the Art Market I'm doing in November or use them as my freebie in promo bags. (I used paint chip samples for the base and some inexpensive peel-and-stick laminating sheets for a protective cover. Here's a pic of how I organize my collage work *ha* and a shot of the new bookmarks.

I'm thrilled. Installing the platform tomorrow. I should have purchased a heavy bag today, but I'm not sure what kind of bracket I need for the ceiling.

Another reason to be all charged up...I'm going to NYC for my birthday. Never been. Just want to go. Sweet. I'm so happy that I found someone that I want to be with, and share experiences with. *sigh*

I have decided to start writing down a monthly goal in sales, splitting it up between online and real life sales, and also my project aspirations. I'd love to hear about your goals and ideas, whether they be monetary or whatever. Do share. I believe the act of writing and sharing your dreams leads to success.

My online sales goal for August is $650. My real life sales goal is $300. I will finish an embellished cuff, another set of cuffs, one crocheted rope, have half my belt completed, and have a whole slew of bookmarks and soldered collage pendants executed. Whew :)

I'm addicted to making these darn beads! And, they are selling :)
The pieces I sent for Bead Dreams are published in a supplement that was sent out in the October 2007 issue of Bead and Button. I was pleasantly surprised and very happy with the photos of my work.
Still need to do the math, but I came very close to reaching my goals for the month. What do you know about that?

I started work in earnest on a pair of white bead embellished cuffs. They measure 2 1/2" wide and close with a button and snaps. The cuffs I'm creating are meant to be worn over shirt cuffs.

...with the people on Etsy. I know I should just make a bee line for the "Promotions" section and get the heck out, but I couldn't help reading a thread entitled "Reporting a Seller." I will give you the gist of what went down. The original poster, the OP, asked what she could do about a seller she had found that was copying, exactly, pieces from bead magazines and books. She was verbally abused and told she should "mind her own business" by other posters. (Here's a link to the locked thread.)

I am so incredibly disgusted by this attitude. People that directly copy and profit from other's hard work are pathetic individuals, and have no business selling on Etsy, or any where else. I won't mind my own business. I will call those people out to the publishers and those that hold the copyright to designs and instructions. Period.

Half of the sellers on Etsy couldn't be more ignorant. Bah.

I have cuffs to embellish, damnit!

I'm almost done with the white cuffs I started a few weeks ago. I'm hoping to have the surface embellishment done today. A complete overhaul of my website is also in the works. I want to make all my web presences a little more cohesive, to have the appearance of a "brand" then the scattered mess I now have :)

Sales are great at Jade Dog Beads and I couldn't be happier about that. However, I haven't sold a finished piece of jewelry online for 4 weeks. Hmmmmm. I have had two e.mails from potential customers wanting a discount. It became my policy some time ago to stop discounts and sales on my work. My time and artistic expression don't get discounted (double meaning intended!)

I've been really, REALLY busy. I just took a look at the Omaha Symphonic Chorus Art Fair roster of participating artisans. Higher end art, I'm happy to report. Come see me if you are in the neighborhood. The fair is held at the Holiday Inn on 72nd, from 9-5. It's two bucks to get in. It'll be worth it!
I will be listing new vintage button lots next week, and some new antiqued copper chain. But, if you just can't wait...check out my bead shop today :)

Saturday's art fair was a bust. There just wasn't a turn out. There were fab artists...got some holiday shopping done...but it was the worst, monetarily speaking, show I've ever done. Bummer. But it was a good opportunity for me to set up my new displays and work on a new crocheted rope :)

This clutch is one of the more difficult pieces I have ever worked on. The colors...oh, the colors. Orange is hard for me to work with, but I need a mental and creative stretch :) The beetle in resin is from Konos Designs. It was a cufflink, but I removed the finding and epoxied it to interfacing.

I am using Marc Chagall's The Violinist for inspiration.

is off to a pretty darn fantastic start! I sold a freeform bracelet and a bead embroidered pin on Etsy tonight :) Fantastic! I'm a little freaked though. I had planned on having three for the shows this week, and they have all sold.

So, this week I have my Trunk Show at Dundee Gallery at 50th and Underwood in Omaha, Nebraska on Wednesday from noon to 8pm. I will also be there from noon to 3 on Thursday. Then Thursday evening, from 6:30pm to 8:30pm, I will be at the Joslyn Art Museum Gift Shop's Re-Grand Opening. I'm really looking forward to this week. I hope to meet new people and see some familiar faces.

...in a fiery crash. The two shows this week went horribly. People weren't in the holiday buying mode, or really any sort of buying mode. Let's hope they get that way. And buy handmade. And start to support local arts. And soon.

I am at a loss as to how to go on from here. I worked so hard to be ready for this week and I am so disappointed, which is becoming my regular mood. I have scheduled a show in Des Moines on December 8th, and I'm having reservations about doing it. The constant let down is wearing me out.

Ugh. I was supposed to teach a finishing techniques class tonight and only one person showed up (out of the 4 I was told signed up). Oh well.

Any way...I'm hoping for a big sale on Etsy in the wee hours of the night/morn. I wanna new camera, Canon Rebel XTI. I got a macro lens on Ebay today. Now I just need the camera to go with it :) I don't want to list any new items until I get a better camera. It'll seem like wasted time if I do.

So I began work on the freeform I mentioned yesterday. The cabochon seems much too large for a peyote bracelet, so I may do a freeform neck piece. I can't make up my mind. I'll do a lil' crochet in the meantime.

Felted Bowls

I taught myself crocheting in the round and decided to tackle felted bowls. These are my first two attempts. I'm pretty happy with the results. I had to felt them by hand, which was incredibly time consuming, and to be perfectly honest, I'm not sure I want to do again. My idea was to do felted belts. Now I'm not so sure. If I had access to a decent washing machine, I might give it another go. I'm going to work on some arm warmers today as I bake oatmeal cookies.

Peyote tube worked in various sizes of seed beads. I'll be teaching this next term at IWCC in Shenandoah and in Atlantic, Iowa.

Tiny tea service charm in sterling. Me mum gave this charm to me a while back. It's about 5/8" x 1/2" x 3/8".

As you can see, I got a new camera. My Christmas present to me :) It's a Canon Rebel XTi and I got a 60mm macro lens. I'm learning a lot, and hope to have many new items up in both Etsy shops after this week.

Blue Freeform

I have started a blue freeform for a customer. I'm using a marble cabochon dyed lapis blue as the focal with two fab buttons (one shell, the other a copper enamel) for the closure. Lots of great vintage German glass beads mixed through the garden of Japanese glass seed beads in all shades of blue. I don't work much with this color, and with this piece I'm focusing on creating texture.

I injured my lower back this last weekend at the gym...doing something I shouldn't have (increased weight at the Smith's machine) and I'm now paying for it. I went to a chiropractor/acupuncturist yesterday, but no relief. Unfortunately, I have to work today, 10 hours on my feet. And 2 hours in a car.

I had taken a bunch of pictures of supplies and some fringe beads I made during the Christmas week, so I laid about yesterday listing new items. But no sales this morning. If you have a second, please visit my shops and tell me if the latest pictures are clear, are too busy, whatever, critique. I am really happy with the pics, but I am looking at them on my computer, not yours :)

I've been asked to do another freeform bracelet, similar to Amazon Cuff Disintered. I just found a couple of great cabs, so as soon as I can sit for extended periods of time, I'm on it!

I finished the clutch! I have it listed on Etsy, and have entered it into the Etsy Beadweaver's February Challenge, themed "Spring Break." I will post more details when they become available. I also plan on entering the crocheted rope lariat I finished in these same colors as soon as I can get a decent picture taken. I started work on a bead embroidered belt. I'm working it in blacks, silvers, and hematite. Much better on my brain, those colors :)
I've been asked to work on a freeform necklace. I don't feel ready to tackle that. I'm hoping to get in the mood this weekend. I have big plans for Tucson, and would love to have some extra cash for bead buying.

I can not believe that in a week's time I will knee deep in beads. The time has crept soundlessly behind and given me a goose! HA :) It is my favorite time of year. I'm looking forward to seeing "new" vintage items, and sifting through strands of lucite. I'd like to have $308 more in my PayPal account by Friday...just some extra bead money. I've spent the day on-line researching what's new. And tomorrow I will spend a few extra minutes at the gym. Gotta get the muscles ready for lifting, stretching, and bobbing and weaving my way through the beading masses.

I've had such a wonderful response to my "Mostly Orange" clutch. It sure would be nice to sell that this week. And maybe a few of my PMC pieces. That would be extra nice.

Well, the goal I had for the week fell short. No finished jewelry sold on Etsy since the 27th. And that was an $11 necklace. What the heck!?* Anyway, I will be a busy bee this weekend, finishing a freeform for a customer tonight, working tomorrow at the Bead Market, stopping after work at the Dundee Gallery to return a bracelet I shortened for a very good customer. Sunday, packing and doing miscellaneous cleaning and organizing and a quick inventory before THE BIG TRIP. Whew!

I was a busy bee yesterday, taking pictures and setting up my listings for eBay and Etsy. I have a ton of vintage French and Belgian sequins, vintage glass buttons, vintage glass cabochons...I also have more vintage metal charms and decorative pieces, but those will have to wait until next weekend.

I got a lot of loot in Tucson!

There are so many ideas floating around in my head, I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed. I'm teaching a spiral rope class and a crocheted rope class on Tuesday during the day at the Bead Market (both I can still fit people in...hint, hint!) and a polymer cane class on Wednesday evening in Shenandoah. I need to finish a crocheted rope, maybe today, so I can get started on a new free form peyote necklace. I have an idea for an entry into this year's Bead Dreams.

Been super busy. I now have my own permanent classroom space! This weekend I painted (one more coat along the top) and priced seed beads. So, tonight I may actually be able to set stuff up, see what I need. I'm carrying all the supplies for my classes; polymer clay and tools, beadweaving supplies, and some stringing supplies. I'm really excited. I've worked really hard in the last month. My whole body is tired. And there is still so much to do.

I opened my classroom space this weekend. I had run adverts on the local radio and had a very low turnout, but did get a class scheduled for next Saturday, Peyote Basics. I'm going to make a flyer today to take around to the surrounding towns, try and get some business that way.

Kits for my Tumbling Blocks Peyote Pattern in primary colors and in pastels are available on Etsy, and I'm considering making some new graphs...we'll see. The Garden Art Fair is close at hand, May 10th, so I have A LOT of work to do between now and then. I'll be fixing up my website today, so the class info will be updated by tonight. I'm also revamping the site, using my Etsy banners to add some bright color to the pages.

Three days since my last supply shop sale. No sales at the classroom facility ALL WEEKEND. I haven't sold a finished piece of art-to-wear since the 15th of February. No sales of kits or patterns...

What the hell is going on???? Are people really getting freaked about the economy? The presidential election? Gas prices? What gives?

As always, I will ride it out. Use this time to get some good stuff made. What else can a bead girl do?

I'm getting ready to teach a peyote basics class in Red Oak at 1pm. That will be a nice break. I have been beading like crazy for the Garden Art Fair. Mostly quick projects, like the beaded beads and fringe rings. I have a new freeform in mind; might start that this afternoon after class. I perused a copy of the latest Beadwork Magazine at the Bead Market. Lots of cute, easy projects. The kind to get you out of a rut, if you are in one.

I taught a class this afternoon in RO to my regular Shenandoah students. I'm really glad they came out to me, and they are happy to come out for the remaining class series. Another piece of good news; two students from SWCC heard the radio spot and are really jazzed about taking classes in RO, and brought a friend in today to check out the class examples.

Well, the word is out and there is quite a buzz about the classroom facility, although most people think it's a shop. I don't want people thinking of it as that, and I'm not sure what to do about halting the gossip.

New Old Work

The Garden Art Fair is May 10th. It is fast approaching, so I picked up my consignment works at the Joslyn and many pieces from the Dundee Gallery. Those are back up on Etsy for the time being. I'm doing inventory and pricing work today, and deciding on what needs to be made for the show, what to take apart and remake. What a giant pain in the tush. Anyhoo, there are few soldered collage pendants or polymer clay pendants on hand, so I may get to work on those this weekend. I really enjoy making beaded beads, and have been incorporating those into some interesting pieces. I may wait until after the Fair to debut them on Etsy.

I am making kits available for the Fringe Beaded Rings and Fringe Beaded Beads. Everything I have made up is now listed on Etsy. I may have kits available for freeform peyote stitch bracelets, depending on how class goes tomorrow and if all the kits I have made up get snatched up.

Yesterday's class was "Fat and Thin, A peyote tube." Class went very smooth, and I started one in greens and black that is looking very good. Check out the pic!

I'm in the craft show at Rockbrook on Saturday. I kinda called in a favor, and there you go. I've done this one before...not terrific sales, but I feel like I need to do a little "dry run," so to speak. I washed and dried tablecloths and the mannequin's outfits :) today, and still need to spray paint an earring display and clean my tent weights. I don't think I'll have time to finish the freeforms I wanted to have done, but we'll see.

I hope I'm not jinxing the upcoming craft show at Rockbrook, but I am looking forward to it. Everything has just come together for it, that it feels like SOMETHING is going to happen. Like the feeling you get before a big storm, except you don't know it's a storm until it's rushing right past you, whipping your hair around your face like when you are standing feet away from the railroad tracks and a train passes you and almost knocks you off your feet. That kind of feeling.

It could be the Funky llama talkin', but I have a good feeling about the next couple of weeks. Stay tuned to see if I've got the mojo :)

The Rockbrook show was a success. A vendor didn't show, and unloading vendors were parked in my original space, so I was able to snag THE supreme spot at the fair. It doesn't hurt none that my work is awesome :) My back is killing me. So today is a day of rest.

I sold some fringe rings and fringe beads, a few PMC necklaces...a little bit of everything, but none of my newer works, except for the PMC pinecone pictured a few posts ago.

The Garden Art Fair is postponed until next Saturday. It was supposed to rain all day. I think it started in the afternoon. I think it would have been ok, but maybe next Saturday will be a beautiful sunny day.

The Nebraska AIDS Project event was alright. Not many sales, but I'd definitely do it again. What a great group of people! I had fun. The very large, very tasty Hurricane probably helped my mood immensely :)

Anyway, today is Button Sunday. I've listed "new" vintage buttons on Jade Dog Beads, so if you are in the market, now's the time! I've made some fun rings out of the larger buttons. They are fabulous.

It's super humid in Iowa (already!) and it's making me grumpy. And rather lethargic. But today is the day to clean up my work table and make it atleast look like I'm organized. I've taken a before pic of my work table, and also a pic of the plants me mum sent me for my grand opening. I repotted them and they are doing splendidly :)

I just can't seem to get it.

I've tried looking through magazines, cruising my favorite bead sites, taking walks, browsing bookstores, doing some metal and wireworking. This past Spring was such a creative time for me. What the heck happened?

The front door to my studio has swollen shut from all the rain and subsequent humidity. The toilet has a leak, and the sink...it was clogged so I used some Drain-o. It ate through the elbow-shaped pipe! (And don't ask about the frogs and the spiders.)

I think I'll flip through Isabel Artigas' "Antoni Gaudi: Complete Works" and see if I don't get some inspiration.
